Types of Civilisations
If the expansion of the universe goes on accelerating there is o doubt that
intelligence and people can survive. But, as the temperature decreases over
billions to trillions of years, there is enough time or an intelligent civilisation
to look or a solution. We do not know what it will be but physicists can analyse
the option available. All of them present enormous practical problems. The
question is: Will engineers be able to solve them? We do not know, but they
have plenty of time to do it.
Physicists classify the civilisations ahead in 3 categories base on their
foreseen consumption of energy and the laws of thermodynamics:
- Type I civilisation: At that stage people will be able to use all the solar
energy striking the earth (10E16 watts). With this energy they will be arable
to control/modify the weather, build cities on the ocean, ...
- Type II civilisation: People will have harnessed all the sun power (10E26
watts).
- Type III civilisation: people will, have harnessed mot of he power of the
Milky Way galaxy {10E36 watts}.
At the moment we can say that we live in a type 0 civilisation and that
we will reach type I level in about 100 to 200 years. To reach type II level
will take 1,000 to 5,000 years and to reach type III will take at least
100,000 to 1,000,000 years.
If we divide each type of civilisation into 10 subtypes we are now in a
type 0.7 civilisation.
